Psyching myself out in the a.m.

I did such a good job this morning getting up and going to the gym! My new plan with the alarm clock is interesting: I’m trying to go to bed early (last night it was just after 10) and then I set my alarm for 7:30 a.m., which is the time I wake up to not work out. I know that sounds strange and backwards, but what happens is that I wake up early! And then I pop out of bed. I think setting the alarm early is a psychological trigger for me that makes it harder for me to sleep because I think about the little amount of sleep I’m going to be getting. I know it doesn’t make sense, but trust me it’s working.

So at the gym, I did the following on the treadmill:

  • 1 mile warmup at 5.5 mph
  • 4 x 400 at 7.5 mph with walking-jogging in between for 400
  • 2 x 200 at 8.0 mph with walking in between
  • .5 mile cool down
  • Total: 4 miles in 45 minutes

Overall, it was a good interval workout. I’m going to shoot to do a longer run this weekend (maybe 6 miles?). Nothing too long, just something to get back in the groove. Also plan on doing another bike ride. I did one on my birthday by the way! Right before posting my goals I cranked out 7.65 miles on the bike in 30 minutes (15.3 mph), so I’m getting faster!

I made a misstatement in my goals yesterday: the whole eating out thing. I think I’m just going to change it. It’s too hard to do. Hell we ate out last night for my birthday; I’m going to a networking thing tonight and I’m going to eat out; and we have dinner plans with tomorrow. Already failed. I think I’m going to amend that goal to be to spend XX amount of dollars per month on food. I know this sounds strange but that will limit the eating out more than anything.

Also I’m going to be making a goal chart to track my daily and weekly goals as well as to document when I succeed at any non-regular goals. Look for that in the near future.

For now I’m off to a networking event. Have a great evening!
