The Joys of Almond Butter

On Friday, I had my first trip to heaven Trader Joe’s. I only grabbed a few items because M was not in the mood for a full blown trip (I will be going back today). One of the things I picked up was crunch almond butter (the one on the right is what I bought at Marsh, one on the left is TJ’s brand). Take a look at the inside of each jar.
To be honest, after I bought my first jar of almond butter I was less than impressed. It was hard to put on food (particularly bananas which I have seen done on so many other blogs and it looked so much better than what I had ended up with), but I think the problem was my brand of almond butter. Today I put it on some toast and added some peanut butter to the top.
It was aaaaaaaaaaa-mazing! I loved this almond butter so much. I might not even finish off that super expensive jar from Marsh (it was $8!!! TJ’s was $5 I think.)

Nutrition for this meal: Bread (140), Almond Butter (190 — 2 tablespoons), 1/2 banana (52) for a total of 382 calories.

I have been thinking about blogging a lot (I’m sure that is shocking) and thought of the following things last night/this morning (M and I stayed up til like 3 a.m. last night while M messed with trying to get our satelite to communicate with our router):

  1. No more counting days on the blog. Don’t ask me why I think this is so important but I do.
  2. No more stepping on the scale more than once a week (ideally I’d like to step on it once a month but I’m going to be realistic with this goal)
  3. Daily posts, no matter what my food intake or lack of exercise — if I’m feeling like more than daily posts I may. Today for instance will probably be 2 or 3 at least.
  4. More strength training. I started this last night by doing the fabulous C&K 10 Minute Strength Routine. I have been reading Caitlin’s blog for quite a long time and admire her so much (check out Operation Beautiful to see the amazing blog movement she started recently). She frequently does at home strength routines and this week teamed up with another blogger (who I just added to my Google Reader this week) to do this challenge. I kept marking it as unread (i.e., so that it was stay in my Google Reader) and finally did it tonight, since I hadn’t worked out at all today. I was amazed at the sweat I worked up in those short ten minutes. I have been really bad at getting my strength training lately at the gym and I think this may be the perfect solution!
  5. I’m going to be more cognizant of the focus I put on food in my life. Although I enjoy food and will continue to do so, I need to focus on food as fuel and secondarily as enjoyment (frequently, it’s the opposite, obviously). If food is only for enjoyment then it needs to be out. This week I’m going to try out a Green Monster. Lately, these have been on every blog of every foodie that I read (which is a lot) and this week Angela even started the Green Monster Movement. I’m not going to pretend like I’m not skeptical but I’m definitely willing to try these out, particularly because of the benefits I have read about (more energy, easy way to get the fruits and veggies in the diet).

I’m headed out to take a 30 mile bike ride! This will be my DPR (distance personal record).
