Sorry for the week hiatus. I have some ’splaining to do I suppose:

  1. The honest truth is that I just didn’t feel like blogging. I went to bed several nights before M even left the couch. I decided that the gym & sleep were more important this week than updating the blog. I think it paid off…until #2
  2. Then, on Thursday, weird things started happening. Around 10 a.m., I couldn’t see out of my left eye the normal way. I had to ask my paralegal to conference in on a call so she could type the notes because I couldn’t see the screen. Then I left for lunch and my left had went numb and I started to feel nauseous. Sometime in there the headache started. I went to the ER around 1 p.m. and left around 4 p.m. Apparently, weird eye issues, numbness, and nausea are very common symptoms of a migraine. They got the migraine to go away and I slept Thursday night away. I had the symptoms AGAIN tonight but thankfully no migraine followed. I think I know the cause: my glasses. I am getting LASIK eye surgery next Friday and so I have been wearing my glasses since Tuesday (it’s what you have to do prior to the surgery). I am not a big glasses wearer and I’m pretty sure my head just isn’t used to them.
  3. I just thought of this reason today but I think it may be the real reason for the hiatus. I’m not happy with where I’ve been going with the blog. I would like to focus more on the working out aspect, with less emphasis on eating. At the same time, I just want to get better at eating (which I failed at today, of course). I have a little motivation planned out so I think everything will work out in the end, and I’ll be back up and blogging normally soon (if not starting today — although I’m making no promises, since I promised last week I’d be posting normally and then totally disappeared).

In other news, I had a really good week of running this week that was capped off with a perfect run. I hesitate to call anything perfect, but this run was just that. First, it was great because it was the Race for the Cure. I love thousands (over 40,000 in Indy in fact) of people getting together for one reason. There’s something so awesome about that. Going off of my success with the 15k, I opted to again run this without the Garmin or the iPod. I ran the race at what I would deem a comfortable pace, and actually thought I was going too slow for a while. I managed to get a cramp, but fought through it and kept running (walked for a few seconds at the water stations, as is the plan at the Mini). There were no timers on any of the course, so I literally had NO CLUE what my time was until I turned the corner onto the last .2ish miles of the course. At first I couldn’t see the clock and then I thought it said 3x:xx. I was so bummed. My 5k was run in 30:19, so I wanted to beat that. I really wanted to beat it by a whole minute if I could. I think I said to M at one point that my goal was 28:30. Well, as I got closer to the clock (& the finish line) I realized the clock said 28:xx. I started sprinting! I managed to finish at just at 28:30. Even better, my chip time was, 28:11! I smashed my PR and my expectations. My pace was 9:04. I couldn’t be happier. This makes the thought of a sub-2 hour half marathon that more believable.

This evening I went for another run because I needed to get some decent mileage in this weekend since I got NONE in last weekend. I went out and ran 5 miles outside. It was fairly nice. I’m going to fall in love with running outside, mark my words.

For anyone that cares, upcoming events:

  • April 24: LASIK (can’t swim for 2 weeks afterwards, but running should be fine). — M and I also believe this is the day that our gym will open (we’ve been driving 20 minutes to and from for the last 2 months)
  • May 2: MINI MARATHON
  • May 3: Triathlon training starts hardcore
  • May 17: Concert season starts with Elton John and Billy Joel (we are going to a bunch of concerts and baseball games this summer)
  • June 11-20: Road trip/baseball watching vacation
  • August 16: Triathlon
  • September 3-7: Denver (& baseball game)
  • October 17: Indianapolis Half Marathon

One last thing: If and when I find myself losing 10 pounds (from my end weight at the end of March), I am going to purchase this. It is only happening then (despite the fact that I would love to have this bag this very second!):If that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is!

I am so glad to see you back and healthy.

I’m jealous of your 5K time!

Keep it up, and I like that you are finding motivation.
