Day 127-131 (4/6/09 – 4/10/09)

I’m avoiding you blog readers, as I’m sure you have noticed.

The best descriptor for this week is exhausting. I have worked more hours this week than I have in any week since I started working (that’s probably really not an impressive number), but trust me, I’m not a big fan of long, 6 day work weeks (yeah, I probably shouldn’t be a lawyer, I know). The biggest issues this week though weren’t the long hours, they were the time of day the hours started.

  • Sunday: I was in bed still when the boss called me to tell me to come in (which turned into a 9 hour day in the office….and btw he called at 11 a.m.) so I obviously didn’t make it to the gym Sunday. I think I did Shred this night but it’s been so long I can’t remember.
  • Monday: I had to be 30 miles from home by 7 a.m. so no morning work out (I did manage a 3 mile run and an upper body weight lifting routine in the evening).
  • Tuesday: I had to be at the office by 7 a.m. again and then ended up working until 9:30 p.m. I got home, changed into my pajamas, and fell asleep seconds after my head hit the pillow.
  • Wednesday: I had my LASIK appointment before work so I couldn’t fit the gym in (I’m getting surgery in 2 weeks btw!) and frankly was too lazy to run that night. (Although I did get suckered into cleaning and rearranging the living room).
  • Thursday: The week took a turn for the better finally. I decided to forego the morning trip to the gym which I thought would mean no workout. However, when I got home around 8, M and I decided not to go to the gym but I decided to go for a run anyway. I did a 5k and then came home to do push-ups (we’re back at week 4, day 1 of the program because week 5 is dang near impossible) and 100 bicycle crunches (I’m really loving these).
  • Friday: Despite the late run, I managed to get out of bed and hit the gym up again (and I knew that M would want to go to the gym after work too). I did 3 miles, the last 2 being 8×200 with 200 meter recoveries. I think for the evening work out I’m going to swim because I haven’t done that in 2 weeks!

I feel like I’m writing excuses and I guess to say they are anything other than excuses would be a lie. However, I’m not sure why I even have to make up excuses. The reality is that last week I ran 25 miles. I should cut back every now and then to give the ole body some recovery (you should cut back running every 4th week or so, I think) and I really only missed 3 days this week at the gym (I anticipate going tomorrow) — and I’m making up for a missed day by hitting the gym up twice today. So even though the week seems horrible (and trust me by Wednesday I was so ungodly grouchy because I hadn’t worked out that I thought M was going to send me to apartmentfinder.com) it really was better than I thought at first. Ironically, I think it is a good thing that not working out made me feel grouchy because I’m reminded of how much I truly like working out. I feel so much better when I work out regularly and I love what working out is in the process of doing to my body.

I’m a little slow at the j-o-b today so I’m working on finalizing my triathlon training. Only 3 weeks until the Mini Marathon so I have to be ready to roll the minute it’s over (although I can’t swim until May 9th due to the LASIK — in fact, the triathlon training was the reason I decided to get the surgery so quickly). I anticipate posting the training schedule within the next 30 minutes.

P.S. I should post my food this week. So here it is: starbucks sausage sandwich and green tea latte with skim milk, wrap three times (I think?), tootsie roll pops (x10), KFC wrap & fries (only ate a few bites of the wrap and then ate the chicken inside), one blue moon, reduced fat cheezits, Sante Fe Chicken Soup (I was good one day…er meal), donuts, oatmeal with almonds (only once this week, I told you it was bad!), protein shake & banana (okay, 3 meals), bagel and cream cheese, eggs and toast (okay 4), Bertollini and asparagus (oops 5!). So 5 out of 15 meals I was good. That’s no good. I think I left some food out. I will be back to my regularly scheduled daily blogs tomorrow. I also hopefully will be calorie counting again!
