Quick recap of the weekend:
Exercise
- Friday: I swam for 20-25 minutes. I have been wanting to try out the pool at my new gym (LA Fitness, which has an indoor lap pool at every facility). Holy smokes, swimming for exercise is hard. My primary struggle was with breathing. I felt out of breath any time I did freestyle but I was okay with breast stroke. I would venture to bet the free style is a better workout than breast stroke but that is merely because of my inability to breath normally (i.e., not feel like I was struggling to breath) doing free style. I have no scientific backup to that claim. I should say, as background, that I’m a pretty decent swimmer. I swam “competitively” as a kid and wish I would have done the swim team in high school. However, it’s been quite some time since I have swam for a workout.
- Saturday: I ran the 10k in the Mini Marathon Training Series. My official time was 1:02:17. That’s just over a 10 minute/mile pace! I’m super stoked about this and think it definitely opens up my eyes about the possibility of my improvement at the mini this y ear.
- Sunday: I went to the gym with M. Did a mile warm-up and then did a full body weight lifting routine. I’m slightly sore today (Monday) so I think that’s a good sign!
- I have a big announcement on Monday concerning running!
Food for the day:
- Friday: Oatmeal, grapes, greek salad, hummus and pita bread, Chicken Marinara pasta (another Birds Eye one that’s microwavable! and pretty good)
- Saturday: english muffin with peanut butter, chocolate chip cookie and banana (post race), tomato mozzerella chicken sandwich and tortilla soup (from Max and Erma’s), a slice of sausage pizza and two breadsticks, guacamole
- Sunday (which was a weird food day): two eggs and two pieces of toast, english muffin and crunch peanut butter, pickles, cottage cheese with sunflower seeds, and a small movie theater popcorn
I wish I would have calorie tracked my food better this weekend, but I didn’t.
I also have very sad news to report. At my weign in (which is me and the scale in the bathroom on Sunday morning, a very professional affair), I had actually gained weight since the previous Sunday. I was up a half pound, which really sucks because (1) I had lost 2 pounds earlier in the week and (2) M lost 2 pounds! I don’t know what the deal is. Oh well, I’m going to keep trying! I would love to lose 10 pounds this month, but that’s becoming more unrealistic, so I think the goal is just going to be to lose as much as possible (aiming for 10 still) and be happy if the scale goes down
Congrats on the great race!
I’m excited for the running announcement.
