Day 67 and 68 (2/5/09 and 2/6/09)

Trying to blog the day after has caused me a bit of confusion. Take this very entry for instance. I was about to say that I had a crappy run at the gym “this morning” (i.e., the morning of the day the entry is about, but yesterday in reality) when I realized that the crappy run I was thinking about was actually the run I had on Tuesday morning. To fix this time issue I am having as of this post, I’m going to start posting through present. That might mean that I post lunch and dinner for one day and the work out and breakfast from the next all in one poast. In fact, I imagine that’s what my posts will be more likely to be, unless I can get in to the habit of posting at night (which I don’t think is going to happen).

My run yesterday morning was actually quite decent, despite my first description. Not incredibly fast, but I did 5 miles in 50 minutes. For the first time in a while I slipped below the 6.0 mph mark for a few minutes a couple of times. Frankly, my inconsistency over the last few weeks might finally be starting to show. I was having marked improvement with each run and each week and I have not been seeing that in the last two weeks. Today’s “workout” was particularly weak. I am running a 5k tomorrow (Saturday, for those confused by my completely skewed time issues right now) so I knew I wanted to take it easy today. I also took a book with me to the gym (my book for my book club meeting on Tuesday, which there is a slight possibility I might have to miss) so I wanted to do things that I could work out and read at the same time (this is obviously going to result in not working out as hard as I would sans-book). So I warmed up on a recumbent bike for 10 minutes, then did the Arc Trainer for 15 minutes (Anne does this thing all the time, but I hate hate hate them for some reason), and then walked a mile in 15 minutes on the treadmill. I did manage to work up a bit of a sweat, but it was definitely not a hard work out or even a mildly hard work out. Hopefully this results in a fantastic 5k in the morning. The 5k is likely to be my only work out this weekend as I have to work on Sunday (boo!). I really need to get a long run in at some point, since my last one was nearly 2 weeks away. Maybe I’ll have to get a run in after working Sunday — what a great day that’s going to be.

Food for 2/5/09:
B: oatmeal

L: butternut squash lean cuisine, rice krispy treat and cheetos (no thanks to my paralegal who brought me a boxed lunch with the last two items in it…I have no self control sometimes).

D: TGI Friday’s Chicken Carbonara. I’m sure you first thought is “wait!!!! I thought you weren’t eating out this month and you’d be correct. We didn’t. This is sold in the froze food section. It was quite tasty IMO. I also had a roll with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter on it.

S: cookie (M made them for me to take into work today so I had to sample one. He “messed up” the recipe, but they are still delicious.)

Food so far for 2/6/09

B: oatmeal

L: we had a pitch in for work because one of my co-workers is leaving so this was a bit of a hodge-podge of bad food: fruit, veggies (& dip), tuna salad, buffalo wing dip (sounds weird but was amazing) with triscuits, cookie, and chocolate cake. Yikes. Pitch ins are almost impossible for me to behave at.

D: M and I tried to recreate Spicy Pickle’s Gobbler. Spicy Pickle was one of M’s favorite places to go (I had never been) but they all closed here. Luckily M had randomly kept the menu so recreating it was easy because we knew what to buy. The Gobbler we made had turkey saulsalito, feta cheese, artichoke hearts (canned is what we used), mayo and sun dried tomato flakes (the restaurant used sun dried tomato mayo which we couldn’t find) on bread that we bought in the deli (it was italian bread with oil and some other flavor I’m forgetting right now). The sandwich was really good and M said it wasn’t far off from the sandwich at the restaurant. Also had chips and salsa and a few cookies afterward.

Running a 5k and getting the house inspected tomorrow. Working Sunday and starting a 21 day diet thing on Monday (more to come on that front I’m sure).
